Anita Stennberg won the elimination race in the Fashion for Cycling Ladies Cup on Saturday. Lotte
Kopecky was eliminated early in this event but triumphed later in the evening in a fierce points race, in
which she drove the Ghent crowd wild with a solo victory lap.
Halfway through the penultimate day of the Lotto Six Days of Flanders Ghent, the women’s peloton took to the
track to complete their elimination race. This part of the Fashion for Cycling Ladies Cup resulted in an early
elimination and therefore a lot of points lost for Lotte Kopecky. Shari Bossuyt was able to keep up with the pace
of a strong Anita Stennberg the longest but had no chance against her opponent in the final sprint. Stennberg
took the lead.
Luca Vierstraete took the most points in the early stages of the points race, the main event of the evening in the
Fashion for Cycling Ladies Cup. Laerke Expeels attacked early, but her efforts cost her a lap, along with Marith
Vanhove, who had an off day and disappeared from the race.
Lotte Kopecky and leader Anita Stennberg opened the final by racking up a lot of points. Kopecky attacked and
carried by the crowd, sped to a winning lap. Leader Stennberg tried to limit the damage but still had to concede a
winning lap to Kopecky. This gave the former World Champion a firm lead in the points race. A final sprint was
therefore not necessary to secure the victory. Instead, there was a commanding lap of honour in the Kuipke in
front of an exuberant crowd.
