The second evening of the Lotto Zesdaagse Vlaanderen-Gent was also dedicated to G-Sport. World Hour Record holder Ewoud Vromant and double World Champions Griet Hoet and Anneleen Monsieur created some unforgettable moments in ‘t Kuipke.
To get the G-athletes’ evening started, all riders were presented to the audience with a 500-metre time trial. This was followed by three other disciplines.
After Niels Verschaeren’s win in the 10-lap pursuit, the crowd in ‘t Kuipke put their hands together for Ewoud Vromant. The current World Hour Record holder in the MC2 class and Paralympic medallist in Tokyo impressed in the 2500m pursuit – in 2020 Vromant became World Champion in the 3000m pursuit. Vromant won with 3:11.840 and was clearly enjoying himself: “A very special moment to race here so close to home in front of so many people.”
Farewell to Hoet and Monsieur
Griet Hoet and Anneleen Monsieur also gave the crowd at ‘t Kuipke goosebumps. The inseparable tandem duo captured two world titles at the World Championships G-track cycling in Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines last summer and waved goodbye during the kilometre time trial in Ghent, donning the rainbow jersey and receiving a standing ovation from the Ghent audience.
