Thibaut Van Damme and Witse Bertels had to relinquish their lead after the second evening of the U23 AVS Cup to Germans Moritz Mauss and Tobias Müller, who are now in the lead with 42 points. The Belgians are ranked second with 39 points. The Italian pair Davide Stella/Matteo Fiorin have climbed to third place in the standings with 18 points.
It was Denmark’s Tristan Bruun Bak who dominated the first points race winning 20 points, after lapping the rest of the field. Van Damme, who was leading the U23 AVS Cup at the time together with Bertels, finished second, just ahead of Mauss. Both riders collected nineteen points. In the second points race of the evening, Müller outclassed the competition with 35 points. Britain’s Daniel Thompson collected three fewer. Renzo Raes totalled 25 points and finished third.
Just like on Tuesday, the second evening was concluded with a time trial lap. Van Damme flashed across the 166.66-metre track and clocked a time of 8.842. No one beat him, so the Belgians picked up ten important points again. Mauss and Müller scored six points with a time of 8.909. Stella and Fiorin clocked 8.975 on the track and finished third.
