German duo Moritz Mauss – Tobias Müller enter the final day of the Six Days of the Future as leaders.
They won the Madison and limited the damage in the 500m time trial, in which Belgians Witse Bertels and
Thibaut Van Damme took the win after an impressive half kilometre.
The fifth of six days for the U23 riders featured their second Madison, an exciting battle between a broad field of
participants that provided a nice appetiser for the fifth night of the Lotto Six Days of Flanders Ghent.
The French duo Lucas Menanteau and Mathieu Dupe opened the final strongly by lapping the rest of the peloton
with about sixty laps before the finish. No other duo seemed capable of keeping up with the powerful French pair.
Twenty laps after their winning lap, the French had to pay for their efforts. The other strong duos kept up the pace
and the French had to drop back to the rear of the group.
The Germans scored a lot of points along the way and finished second in the final sprint as well, which meant
that with an equal number of laps and the most points, they were able to claim victory in the Madison.
The 500m time trial in this U23 AVS Cup continued to warm up the crowd. The Belgian duo Witse Bertels and
Thibaut Van Damme completed the three 166m laps the fastest and won in front of their home crowd.
The German Madison winners go into the final day as leaders with a narrow lead over their closest pursuers. Off
to an exciting final on Sunday afternoon!
