Lowie Nulens outsmarted his competitors in the sprint tournament at the Lotto Six Days of Flanders Ghent. He took on three other Belgian sprinters and proved to have the fastest legs in a packed Kuipke. Zita Gheysens was allowed to attack the track record and the women’s 500m record on this track.

The Belgian quartet of Thibault Van Laere, Runar De Schrijver, Yeno Vingerhoets and Lowie Nulens competed against each other in a sprint tournament halfway through the last day of the Lotto Six Days of Flanders Ghent. Four of the best sprinters in our country first competed against each other in a track lap.

Yeno Vingerhoets set a track record, but former record holder Lowie Nulens countered with an even faster time. The two fastest men then competed against each other in a true sprint duel in front of the Ghent audience. Runar De Schrijver first beat Thibault Van Laere in the sprint for third place, followed by Yeno Vingerhoets and Lowie Nulens who put on a real show with a not-to-be-underestimated track stand on the steep track of the Kuipke. Vingerhoets started the sprint, but Nulens was able to counter him and beat him in a tense sprint on the short track.

The 18-year-old Zita Gheysens from West Flanders, in turn, attacked Nicky Degrendele’s track record, but remained 3 tenths above the fastest lap ever for women in Ghent’s Kuipke.

Lowie Nulens wins the sprint competition in Ghent.
