The Lotto Soudal team has issued a positive update on its rider Gerben Thijssen, who crashed during last year’s Lotto Six Days of Flanders-Ghent. Great news: Thijssen is back on his bike, training in Mallorca.
Thijssen partnered with Moreno De Pauw in Ghent, but on the opening night of the Ghent Six, on 12 November, he suffered a terrifying crash. The 21-year old Belgian suffered three minor brain haemorrhages as well as three broken ribs and a fractured collarbone.
Less than three months on Thijssen has made a remarkable recovery. He is back on track training in Mallorca, his Lotto Soudal team reported. It’s wonderful news and we wish Gerben the very best, and hope to see him in the peloton again very soon.
