Noah Vandenbranden and Gianluca Pollefliet are the overall winners of the AVS Cup, the Ghent Six Days for promising young riders (U23). The Belgian duo was head and shoulders above the rest at the Kuipke over the last week.
Control. That was all Vandenbranden and Pollefliet had to do in the closing Madison over 240 laps. Britain’s Noah Hobbs/Joshua Tarling, France’ Clément Petit/Nicolas Hamon, The Netherlands’ Yanne Dorenbos/Noël Luijten and Switzerland’s Fabian Weiss/Damien Fortis did all they could during the Madison to grab a lap win in order to go for final victory, but Vandenbranden and Pollefliet did not allow any surprises and easily held on to their lead.
Victory in the Madison went to Brits Hobbs and Tarling, but Vandenbranden and Pollefliet’s second place was more than enough for them to take final victory. With 152 points, the Belgian duo beat their British rivals with no fewer than 60 points. Third place went to Petit/Hamon from France, who were one lap behind and had gathered 100 points.
