Lindsay De Vylder and Robbe Ghys remain on top after three days in the Lotto Zesdaagse Vlaanderen Gent. The defending champions go into the third night with 195 points.
The third night started with double wins for duo Fabio Van den Bossche/Benjamin Thomas. The Paris bronze medallist won the first points race, his French teammate followed suit by also picking up the flowers in the second points race.
It put pressure on De Vylder and Ghys, but the leaders immediately put things right: a win in the team elimination added an extra 20 points to the counter.
After the track lap, won authoritatively by Noah Vandenbranden and Gianluca Pollefliet, the programme featured the first Madison of the evening. Sparks flew at the Kuipke especially during the final. After De Vylder/Ghys and Van Den Bossche/Thomas fought each other, it was Hesters and Gate who snatched first place.
Van Schip’s Duck
The Romeos set the Kuipke ablaze during the break and the Dernys raised the temperature even higher in the second part of the evening. Thomas and De Vylder grabbed five points, in between Jan Willem van Schip was overjoyed with his victory in the individual elimination and his accompanying trophy: Ducky, the cuddly duck.
Van Schip also won the scratch a little later. Van den Branden and Pollefliet again showed off their fast legs. After three wins in the track lap, they also won the 500-metre time trial. With 27.064 they set the second-best time over that distance this week.
The third night ended with a Madison. In it, Van den Branden and Pollefliet put the icing on the cake with a third victory of the evening. De Vylder and Ghys remain in the lead with 195 points. Duos Hesters/Gate (173 points) and Thomas/Van den Bossche (165 points) complete the top three.
